location services not working on iPad Pro (m4)

I have iPadOS 26.0.1 installed and it was working fine until today when suddenly location services are not working. I checked all permissions are correct and on, tried turning them off waiting and then turning back in. I’ve restarted my iPad, reset settings - even wiped everything and still nothing.

If you have a WiFi+Cellular model iPad that isn't able to maintain GNSS-based location, your location might be relevant. GNSS/GPS jamming has become a regular issue in some parts of the world - such as Russia, Eastern Mediterranean, Baltics and the Middle East. If you are located in one of these regions, you might reasonably anticipate seeing issues. In affected regions network-based geolocation services might be similarly blocked by your local authorities.

If your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:

Try restarting your WiFi/Internet Router - as this will often clear unexpected connection and routing issues.

To restart your router, disconnect power from the router for at least 30 seconds - then reconnect power to restart. After your router reboots (which may take several minutes), force restart your iPad as previously described.

Alternatively, if you have a mobile phone with a WiFi hotspot, try connecting to this - and test your iPad. Otherwise, consider seeking help from a cooperative neighbour - and politely if you may temporarily connect to their home WiFi to test your iPad and its Location Services.

Your frustration is evident - and understood.

If you have followed all the suggestions that I have provided, including seeking assistance directly from Apple, I'm at a loss as to what else you can try.

If your circumstances are such that a visit to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store is impossible, I can only recommend that you persist in seeking escalation via the Apple Support team. As to when iPadOS 16.1 (or an interim update) will be released, contributors here cannot provide a definitive answer.

Location isn’t working on my iPad. I have is 26.0.1 installed. I have done a restart, reset, turned things off and on again, checked the right permissions are on, disconnected from WiFi and reconnected. Reset my location settings etc and all the usual steps but it still isn’t working. I have done all of this stuff several times over the past few days, contact support via chat who said someone would call me but I didn’t receive a call. I just want it fixed. It’s beyond a joke I am frustrated and angry now. People keep telling me to repeat steps I’ve already taken and it’s wasting my time. I just want it fixed without being patronised.
