Custom font profiles crashing iPadOS 26.0.1
When I updated the iPadOS 26, my iPad Pro M4 would not start up, and it got caught in a boot loop. This forced me to restore the iPad to factory settings, and then restore my iCloud backup.
However, once my iCloud backup restored, if I tried to restart my iPad, the same thing would happen. It would get stuck on the Apple logo in a boot loop, and never start up. Obviously, I can’t restore my iCloud backup every time I restart my iPad.
After iPadOS 26.0.1 came out, I read about the issue with font corruption. So, once more, I wiped my iPad clean and restored my iCloud backup. This time, I removed the custom font profiles. Once I removed the font profiles, the problem resolved. I was able to shut down my iPad and start it up again.
After I removed the font profiles, I manually backed up to iCloud. Then, I installed a few Google fonts. I’m assuming that Google fonts should be clean font files. After I installed the Google font, this re-introduced the problem. When I shut down my iPad, and tried to restart, it would get stuck on the Apple logo and get stuck in a boot loop.
Once again, I restored from iCloud, and made sure there are no custom font profiles installed on my device, it shuts down and reboot as expected.
I’m using any font app to install custom font profiles. A user on Reddit reports that they are able to use this app and install font profiles without issue. I’m at my wits end. I use graphics software and I need to use custom fonts in my documents.
