That's Numbers trying to be helpful by giving you suggestions based on the other entries you have made in that column.
You can tell Numbers to stop giving you suggestions by unchecking 'Show suggestions when editing table cells' at Numbers > Settings ... in the menu.

Hi Stephen,
Perhaps you have a Pop_up Menu in the last row of that column. Adding a new row will copy that Cell Data Format (another Pop-Up Menu!)
Select the whole column by clicking on the Column Letter. Then apply the method described by 6x6 (Format Panel > Cell > Data Format > Automatic).
All cells in that column will become Automatic. Each cell will adopt the last setting that you gave it when it was a Pop-Up Menu. Now manually change them by typing what you want each cell to show.
Regards,
Ian.
In the Format sidebar, select the Cell tab and reset the Data Format to Automatic:
You do not have to select from the list, you can type whatever you want just as if the list wasn't there. The list is created from the other entries in that column. If there is something on the list that should not be there (a mistake or a mistyped entry, for example), that means it appears elsewhere in that column and you might want to find it and fix it. The list will not contain old entries that no longer appear in the column. Or you can turn the list off like SGIII suggested. I have it off on mine. I wish it was a spreadsheet/document or table setting vs a Numbers setting. There are some spreadsheets/tables where it would be useful but too many where it is not.
Unfortunately no, I have a column and cells within that column, when requiring a placement of an X, a multiple choice selection appears that shows an X, or an X=no vote, or the third choice, XX. I only need the X. It is time consuming to make a choice from the 3, can I remove the multiple choice answers?
Hi Stephen,
I am not sure what you want. Do you mean Pop-Up Menus with 2 choices: Blank (None) versus X?
If so, would Tick Boxes (Check Boxes) do what you want? (Tick = TRUE, Blank = FALSE).
More information on your overall aim may lead to a solution.
Regards,
Ian.
Unfortunately I created this problem while building a spreadsheet. In one column, with 680 rows in the column, an x is placed in a row to show compliance. Unfortunately I entered different answers and tabbed to the next cell. When I went back to fix the error, I erased the incorrect entry and placed the correct entry into the cell.
Now as I continue to expand the spreadsheet, in this particular column, every time I want to place and X, a multiple answer selection pops up seeking me to select which one I want.
I want to rid myself of having to deal with the selection process.
Do you have a suggestion?
Bravo SGIII, that was indeed the solution. Thank you all for your suggestions. It is always sort of irritating when the answer was so apparent and simple, and my over thinking mind did not want to play!
I have no idea what you mean. Did 6x6 give the answer you were looking for?
Did what you suggested but it did not remove the multiple choice answers from the cell, they remained. It remained that way throughout the entire column in which the multiple choice answers appear.
Unfortunately no, the correct answer is from SGIII in this postings.
Thank you Yellowbox, SGIII had the solution and it is posted in this group.
Badunit, SGIII did correctly have the solution, so simple. I never thought to look at the Numbers settings.
