iPhone 16 update causing old text messages to reappear

I updated iPhone 16 and now texts are messed up. I always deleted text off my iPhone, knowing they would always be saved on my Mac. Not only are they deleting on my Mac, but every day old text messages from years ago are now back on my phone. I will delete them then they show up again. Text from 2021!
