Can I install Sequoia 15.4 on Mac Studio M2?

I have a new-to-me Mac Studio M2 Ultra. It Will be my audio workstation using Avid Pro Tools. It came with 15.7.1 installed. I am trying to do a clean install with 15.4, not 15.7.

Pro Tools hasn't approved the latest 15.7 Sequoia - they have officially approved 15.4, and some users are fine on 15.5. So I'd really like to install 15.4.

I found a 15.4.1 installer at mrmacintosh.com and created a bootable USB drive. I did a clean install, erasing the startup drive from Recovery using Disk Utilities, then installed the OS from the USB. But for some reason I ended up with 15.7.1. So I redid the entire process and the exact same thing happened.

Any explanation as to what happened? Or how can I install 15.4?

thanks

thanks for the replies. Yes I was wary of using the installer from this site. But I think the machine is doing a 'network install' rather than installing from the USB. It requires an internet connection to 'activate' then it says the internet is required to do the OS install. Not sure how I can install from the USB?

I am not a proponent of downgrading Apple Silicon computers as there are inherent risks involved

In that person experience, they had a Dual Boot setup and the iBridge in the Secure Enclave was messed up

If you insist on Sequoia 15.4

They this Terminal command

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

Does Apple still offer Sequoia 15.4 ?

If yes and still in Terminal

softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.4

Proceed with the making of a Bootable Installer

Then do what you have done previously and Yes, an Inert Connect will be requires so it can download a Firmware that maybe required

The installer needs a stable internet connection to download macOS and get firmware and other information specific to your Mac model. Make sure that your Mac is connected to the internet.

Don't download and install MacOS from third party sites, you have already had unexpected results.

By the way, maybe you should try using 15.7.1 with your software as it might work fine.

I would not recommend getting installers from third-party sites like the ones you mentioned.

I don't know f the "15.4.1" installer was really a 15.7.1 installer – or if all Sequoia installers are set up to automatically download and update to whatever the latest release of Sequoia is on Apple's servers.

You might want to contact Avid and ask them if there is any reason not to be using the latest release of Sequoia.
