Macbook Pro display goes black after three finger gesture (changing desktops)

When I have the laptop plugged into an external monitor, and I open the laptop screen (after being closed), the display works. As soon as I change desktops (with three fingers), the laptop screen goes black. When I unplug the laptop from the external display, the laptop screen goes black.

The computer is a Macbook Pro 2021 with M1. I have tried restarting the computer.
