The version is 12.7.6 macOS Monterey.
If 13 is not compatible with my system spec, it means I am doomed to remain with this update or change my Mac?
Yes, that's exactly what it means.
Apple released three models of MacBook Pros in 2016. For all three, Monterey is the end of the line.
Monterey is no longer one of the "most recent three" supported by vendors like Microsoft and Adobe; for that matter, with the release of Tahoe, Ventura fell off that list. Soon vendors who wanted a minimum of macOS 13 (Ventura) will be raising that requirement to macOS 14 (Sonoma).
That said, there are applications you can get to extend the useful life of that Mac. These include
- Just about all major third-party Web browsers (Firefox, Brave, Opera, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge)
- The LibreOffice office suite
- The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)
