Mac Photos App cannot see iPhone Photographs after updating phone to iOS26

Since updating my iPhone 14 Pro Max to iOS26 I can no longer access its photos through Mac Photos (running on OSX Ventura).

When plugging my phone into my mac and opening the photos App. selecting my phone shows either "no photos".. or just a couple of photos when I know there are 100's on there that should be downloadable.

Is this a known issue and is there any work around?

Also, eventhough Finder can see my iPhone as an attached device. Alot of times the Phots App on my mac cannot see it, and I have to restart the mac and the phone.

I have tried restarting mac/iphone but to no avail.
