Linking non-shared iCloud Drive files in Apple Notes

I use Apple Notes a lot to wrap-up some complex topics.

Sometimes I need to link a document to my notes. I cannot "attach" the document because Apple Notes does not handle properly attachements and get laggy very quickly (which is logical to a certain extent). The best option is to create a link.

To do it, there are 2 ways:

  • (1) either to link a local file by using : file:///
  • (2) or to link through iCloud drive

Option 2 is better as you will be able to open your notes and the file with different equipment, and other people will be able to do it as well (if you select the right option).

To link a file, you have to share it. To share it, you have to go to your file finder and then control click and then click "Share". You have to share with yourself and copy the link. !!! The shared file is not located in a shared folder !!!

The problem is that there is no way to :

  • know whether a file has been shared or not
  • know what is the link

Please consider again that the shared file is NOT in a shared folder.

That's a problem because:

  • you may want to use the same link in different notes
  • you may create/try to share again the same file

It's seems that Apple manages file sharing in a very poor way. Please help me to understand how I can handle that professionally speaking.

Thanks.
