Recurring Charge Apple Can’t Remove — Even Senior Support Couldn’t Fix It
I recently discovered that a $108.86 charge for an Otter.ai yearly subscription kept trying to process through my Apple ID — even though the subscription was canceled on time through the App Store.
Otter confirmed that the cancellation went through properly and that Apple’s billing system is still attempting to charge me in error.
When I contacted Apple Support, the representatives were wonderful — patient, polite, and genuinely tried to help. But the problem is that no one at Apple has the authority or the tools to actually remove a stuck, recurring charge. Even a senior advisor admitted they couldn’t void it and that my only option was to pay it, then request a refund and hope it’s approved.
How is it possible that Apple can’t fix its own billing glitch?
I was told there’s no higher department to escalate to — meaning users are left paying for Apple’s own system error, with no guarantee of reimbursement.
Apple really needs to review how App Store billing handles canceled subscriptions and give its support team the ability to correct these obvious system mistakes.
