Can you share digital audio files with others via iCloud?

A friend with a newer MBA has digitized some old audio cassette recordings and would like to share the files with me to download and play on my MBA M3. He used Garage Band to format the individual tracks and albums.

If I create a shared folder in my iCloud Drive and send a link to my friend, can he copy the audio files and drop them in the shared folder and they will show up on my computer? Or, are there other steps that must be taken to accomplish the goal of sharing music between Macs?
