As iOS26 was a major iOS upgrade, seems much re-indexing etc., was going on in the background afterwards, in order to complete the update process. Memory and storage space could be in use for quite some time after installation, although we were able to make use of our iPhones.

Seems wise to ensure an iPhone has enough memory / storage space free, eg: at least 8 Gb (NB: any free space in iCloud is quite separate). Ensure iPhone has plenty of power, while allowing ample time for the upgrade process to complete.

Else: if it has been more than a few days since installation:

and If you use third-party (non-Apple) apps on your iPhone:

✽ Unnecessary apps like ad-blockers, virus checkers, cleaners and the like (even VPN) often cause issues.

If installed, you can try turning them off (or use uninstallers from their developers) to see if that helps.

✽ Out-of-date browser extensions can also cause issues ... turn off / uninstall / or update if possible.

✽ Ensure no excessive amounts of blocked contacts have accrued from a third-party app.

✽ Any third-party apps you find necessary may need updating in order to remain compatible, and not cause issues:
