A1469 does not connect to iCloud

Trying to set up a 2nd-hand A1469 that I recently purchased for iPad-to-TV communication. When I try to connect it to my iCloud account, I can put in my username and my password and I get a two factor authentication request on my iPhone to approve the connection of my Apple TV, and my iPhone then gives me a 6 digit code, which I then put back into my Apple TV but then my Apple TV tells me iCloud is not available. So is there something about iCloud authentication that is broken on the Apple TV A1469? My other device (A1625) connects to my iCloud fine.

That is unfortunately as expected for that model. The A1469 (and earlier models) do not connect to iCloud anymore since 2023, due to changes in iCloud, for which no updates came for these models Apple TV box.

You can use the remaining functionality, but iCloud services are no longer an option with this model (or earlier models). Just skip trying to sign in for iCloud.

Signing in for iTunes Store services may also work a bit different regarding two-factor authentication:

If you have an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) and two-factor authentication for your Apple Account, then you may be asked to type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field. Additionally, there is a time limit, after which the code becomes invalid.

If that happens to you, try this: First enter the characters of your password (do not submit yet), then manually request a new verification code (if your device and its OS version support that), then append that code to the password (no spaces or other separating characters), and then submit. That should help you get passed the time limit.

That model has limited functionality. It doesn't run TVOS, like your other model, nor run apps (just a preset selection of server based channels, most of which are no longer supported). It also only support the original version of airplay so it may impact what content can be cast. Overall the device is around 12 years old and no longer supported. Hopefully you can still find use for it based on your needs but just giving you a heads up.

Thank you. I went through every menu last night and was able to connect to my iTunes - odd that both use the same credentials but only iTunes works.

Can you explain to me how the Bluetooth function works? With my A1625 I can have it output the sound through a Bluetooth speaker. However, the Bluetooth menu for the A1469 only mentions connecting a keyboard and doesn't see my speaker when it's in pairing mode.
