Movie Upgrade From HD to 4K

Normally, when a new version of a movie or TV show I’ve previously bought on Apple TV is released, I get a free upgrade from HD to 4K. However, that doesn’t seem to have happened with “John Carpenter’s Halloween”.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the new 4K version to be released and it seems to now be available. However, it’s asking me to Buy the new version, rather than it simply being available to play.

I was wondering if anyone could help me, please?

If the new release is through a different distributor/supplying studio, then the automatic upgrade may not apply.

As this was originally an independent movie, many different distributor studios were involved.

I’m not seeing the 1978 movie for sale in my region at this time on Apple’s Media Store.

I’m only seeing the 1978 movie in HD (not 4K) in the US (through Compass International Pictures).

I’m seeing the 1978 movie in 4K in the UK (through Arrow Films).

So it depends on your country or country-like region.

I guess it could be a rights issue. It’s just annoying as I’d already bought the HD version.

I’m in the U.K. and have contacted Apple Support for further assistance. I’m just waiting for a response.
