Transferring data from PC to new Mac via USB cables

I have a new IMac 24" with OS 26 downloaded. While I've had several Iphones over the years and love them, this is the first Mac. Lots of things to learn after many years using PCs.

I need to transfer data from the PC to the Mac and already tried migration assistant which failed to connect the two computers via wifi. I'd rather use cables anyway so would a usb connection from the pc and a usb c connection to the mac be the best way to go here? Thanks.

The easiest and most efficent method is to simply move your data to an external HD and then copy them to the Mac. Migration Assistant works assuming your network is setup correctly, you not have any software (hint Antivirus) apps running and you network is fast.

If you have a photos library you can copy all the photos (Use Control + A) and drag them to the Photos apps icon in your Mac’s Dock and they will all be imported. If you store a lot of movies on the PC select all of them (same keyboard command) and paste to the TV app, if you have a lot of music stored on the PC do the same but copy to the Music app

If you get stuck call AppleCare, as we don’t know what country you are located in we cannot give you the phone number for your area. Let us know and we can provide the number.

If Wi-Fi is failing and the 24" iMac does not have an Ethernet port on the power brick.

Another method, is to copy your PC files to an external USB drive (preferably SSD) and then connect that to the new iMac.
