up down, left or right...(?) what are you expecting it to do exactly. Avoid conflicting gestures
You can make changes to your Settings and compare your results

>System Settings>Accessibility>Click Pointer Control>Trackpad Options
Turn OFF/PN “Use trackpad for dragging” (or “Enable dragging”).?

I can only assume this is with the built in trackpad...
if you toggled changes, then come back to your preferred setting to test, and no insight or resolve
further—
A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies
This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support
This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing
Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus
all known to cause issues on the macOS
I've always been able to swipe 3 fingers left to go back (either on a website or a finder window). It's not working now and I'm not seeing that option. Now I have to use the back arrow to go back to a page I've previously been on.
