Blu-ray disks not recognized and do not appear on my Mac Studio desktop.

I currently use a Mac Studio (M2 Max) and a Mercury Pro Optical Drive which I believe is an LG UH12NS40. I have used this unit successfully with several Mac systems in the past. I have also tried my Pioneer BDR-XD05B. Both units react the same under Sequoia 15.6.1 and now Tahoe 26.1. Each time I placed a Blu-ray Disc in either unit they spin up, attempt to read the disc, and then give up and eject the disc.

You’ll need to install an add-on third-party app to access and play Blu-Ray media.

Check if the problem lies with the optical drive, the disc, or the system.

If the issue is a lack of playback software, both Leawo Blu-ray Player and Mac Blu-ray Player are software options that can play Blu-ray discs on a Mac.

If the disc cannot be read at all, it seems like a system issue, but there doesn't seem to be a good solution.

with newer macOS versions mounted volumes do not by default display on the desktop

and with newer macOS versions optical drives don't even show up in finder as far as I know unless there is optical media loaded in the drive
