You're not alone: Persistent horizontal lines appear on iMac screen .

You have 3 choices:

1 - have it repaired by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

2 - get a 3rd party monitor, connect and use it while dimming you iMac's monitor to as dark as possible.

3 - get a new Mac like a Mac Mini M4 with a 3rd party monitor. It's be about $500 less than a similarly configured new iMac.

It's been reported by users that the replacement of the iMac's screen will be around $500 - $600 US.

Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news.

If the computer is out of warranty and you decided to not get AppleCare then you also decided to self insure if any repairs were needed outside the warranty period.

As you have been advised, your choice is to take it to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider for repair. However what some are doing is buying an external display and connecting that and placing it in front of the iMac.

Best of luck. By the way, next time you purchase any Apple product it is wise to get AppleCare. The cost more than pays for any repairs if they are needed.
