It looks like Kodak makes a couple of SLIDE N SCAN devices. The user manual says that they have:
On page 7 in the manual, it says "Please note: The scanner only accepts SD and SDHC cards (maximum 32 GB). SDXC cards are not compatible." If you are using a SDXC card, that's likely the problem, and you will need to get one of the lower-capacity cards.
Kodak doesn't say what filesystem you should use, but the standard filesystem for SDHC cards ("more than 2 GB, up to 32 GB") is FAT32. Macs can read and write FAT32 volumes out of the box.
SD Association – Capacity (SD/SDHC/SDXC/SDUC)
I would not format a card using APFS (Mac), HFS+ (Mac), or NTFS (Windows), as I'm sure that the Kodak scanner would have absolutely no clue as to deal with any of those filesystems.
As far as formatting a card goes, the SD Association advises against using standard computer formatting tools like the Mac's Disk Utility. A lot of people format SDHC cards in their digital cameras, but if you are going to format one on your Mac or PC, the SD Association recommends downloading and using their special formatting application.

The card’s capacity is dependent on how much YOU intend to store on it. I would think a 256 or 512GB card would be fine.
It would also be incompatible with the scanner. According to its manual, the scanner only accepts
The OP's best bet is to look for a 16 GB or 32 GB SDHC card. I suspect that cards much smaller than that will have vanished from retail stores by now.
This is for those with Mac minis having a problem uploading photos saved on the Kodak Slide N Scan digital film scanner - as did I initially. I ended up connecting the Kodak to my computer using the USB option instead of plugging the device into an outlet. As we only have two USB ports, I had to temporarily disconnect the one to my printer. To find the location of the Kodak software, which took me forever as the book suggests you look for E or F drives, Go to File, Open File, Locations (under Favorites on mine). It should be listed there. Then simply open the files and save them, in my case to Downloads. (From there I moved them to a folder designated for Kodak.) Hope this helps. I had lots of problems finding this information from various community formats, including this one. I have an Apple M2 Mac mini 2023, Model MMFJ3LL/A
What is the format scheme you used to format the card and did you test the card before using it again? You can put the card back into the computer, open Disk Utility (Applications- Utilities - Disk Utility) and format the card to whatever Kodak is asking for. Then test the card by copying a file to it from the Mac, any old file will do. Also, please remember cards get old and die so it's possible the card you are using may be dead and in need of replacement, you can get replacements from Amazon.
You need to read the manual that came with your Kodak, this is an Apple forum so we simply have no knowledge of your Kodak scanner. If you cannot find the manual do a Google search (something like "Kodak XYZ scanner manual") and there is a fair chance you can simply download the manual.
XFAT is a formatting scheme, this may be the scheme that your Kodak scanner needs. You can use Disk Utility to format the card. If you don't feel like you can do this yourself I STRONGLY suggest you call AppleCare (800-275-2273 for USA and Canada) and tell them you want to format a SD card and need some assistance.
Hi Lisabethfromtx,
Your post is a difficult to figure out what the issue might be so we need more details. Please read over the following article so you can get a good idea of the type of information we need from you in order to help you out. Please remember we don't have the luxury of looking over your shoulder to see things so we have to rely on you to draw a picture so to speak that provides enough detail to help you out.

The Kodak Slide N Scan Digital Film scanner can save scans of film onto an SD card.
Where are you having trouble reading the SD card?
When inserted into the Scanner or on the iMac?
If on the iMac, are using the iMac's built in SD slot?
Or are you using an external reader?
Please explain in detail what is happening or not happening and where the issue lies.
I formated old SD card in my IMac- the slot in the computer. I put it in the scanner and it has an X on it when I try to save a scan
before that, I could only scan 2 slides before filling up the card. One is a 32
I think I have over thought formatting and not understanding the SD Cards.
I am going to try doing all on a Windows laptop next
Thank you. Thinking a new card I don’t mess with would be what I need. I didn’t know wat FAT ?? Was or if it was what I needed.
What size SD card should I get. I want to scan slides at 22mp. Then will put on thumb drive

Yup, after reading your writeup from the Kodak manual I see you are correct.
