iPadOS 26.0.1 Status Bar Overlay Issue
Device: iPad Air (3rd Generation)
OS Version: iPadOS 26.0.1
Issue Type: UI Layering Bug / App Interference
Description:
Since updating to iPadOS 26.0.1, I’ve encountered a persistent UI layering issue on my iPad Air 3rd Gen. The system status bar remains visually and functionally “on top” of app content, even when it should be hidden or layered beneath interactive elements.
This interferes with apps that display full-screen ads—especially those with close buttons (typically an “X”) positioned in the top corners. The status bar obstructs these buttons, making it impossible to dismiss the ad without awkward workarounds (rotating the screen, switching apps, etc.).
Troubleshooting Attempts:
I searched Settings for any “Status Bar” options but found no relevant controls. I tried rotating the screen, switching apps, and using Split View—these offer only temporary relief. I also verified that the issue persists across multiple apps, so it’s not isolated to one developer.
Expected Behavior:
The status bar should not obstruct app content or interactive elements. It should either auto-hide or layer beneath app UI when appropriate.
Actual Behavior:
The status bar remains persistently on top, interfering with app functionality and user interaction.
Impact:
This breaks expected UI behavior and disrupts app usability, especially in ad-supported apps. It’s a frustrating regression in user experience.
Does anyone have any workarounds or fixes for this? Thanks for any assistance.
