Apple TV app on iPad only playing audio with a black screen after recap

This has happened a number of times now that I start an episode of a program only to have the screen go black after the recap finishes playing. Audio works, but there is no image. I have turned off AirPlay; I have uninstalled and re-installed the app. All my other streaming apps work great; my network is fine. Why does the Apple TV app decide to stop showing video after it shows the recap or ads for other shows. I have rebooted the iPad as well. If anyone has any ideas short of hitting it with a sledge hammer, I would love to hear them.
