Adobe Elements 2024 unable to transfer files from APFS-formatted Samsung T7 SSD to Editor on macOS Sonoma
As per title. creating the new (slightly over 1tb) catalogue went - very slowly! - but successfully.
From Elements Editor's file/open menu I can browse through the photostore SSD's file names - without preview- and load them as trials into the editor, and even - edit them. So - theres no barrier as far as that impractical trial goes. The files are addressable, thats established. OK. On we go.
When much the same is tried using the organiser's display, theres an incredibly lengthy list of thumbnails displayed in a big browse pane. So far, so good.
BUT. Try to choose any of these and transfer to Editor, suddenly organiser cant find the file despite having developed an exact thumbnail. Many such attempts fail.
Ill add that this SSD is one of two. The other Samsung T7 2tb drive is exclusive to Time Machine's backups.
I can see no way past this unless going through reconstructing the catalogue and "hoping for the best"
After reading a bit about drive formats I elected to format both of these to APFS. Much of what I knew from decades using Windows has proved more transferrable than I expected, but this sort of explanationless barrier is something Ive never before seen using external (HDD) drives.
Really, really hoping theres something clear to Apple greybeards that'll enable me to get on with some editing.
If I must recreate my catalogue following some altered pattern, thats ok. Can do. So far I didnt try this as the time it took to generate this one was - hours, many. Oh yes. Nearly forgot. I found several strings of out of focus thumbnails in that above mentioned view pane showing thumbnails and as an experiment tried to bin them. A check-spot mini dialog appeared asking if I wanted to delete the originals, I ticked that as an agreement and the following deletion didn't generate any error, the thumbnails in question disappeared. So if this is conclusive Organiser seems able to delete files that it cannot transfer to its editor.
Phew...
On another matter I tried Adobe assistance, was told that as Id bought my Elements from Apple's app store then support would come from Apple rather than Adobe. Hence asking here, in desperation.
Thankyou.
Ian
