Apple TV is not displaying video on Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K

I recently replaced my old Philips Sync Box with the new Philips Sync Box 8K, now I’m getting no video output when using my Apple TV. Apple TV has the new current S/W 26 loaded.

Here’s what I’ve tested so far:

HDMI video from a DVD player and two different laptops passes through the 8K Sync Box to the TV without issue.

The Apple TV outputs video correctly when connected directly to the TV’s HDMI input.

I’ve tried changing video settings and resolutions in the Apple TV menu.

I’ve power-cycled both the Apple TV and the Sync Box, individually and together.

Despite these steps, the Apple TV still won’t display video through the Sync Box 8K.

Has anyone run into this issue, and is there a specific fix or setting I may have overlooked?

After extensive troubleshooting with my Apple TV 4KPhilips Hue HDMI Sync Box 8K, and LG TV, I was able to receive a software update from LG that resolved the HDMI signal-pass issue.

Inside the LG update package (*.EPK) was an HMDISW firmware file that specifically updates the TV’s internal HDMI processor.

My display required firmware version 04.13.50, which replaced the older 04.11.80.01 build.

After installing the update, I:

  1. Powered off the TV and disconnected power from the Apple TV 4K and Philips Hue HDMI 8K Box.
  2. Reseated all HDMI cables.
  3. Powered everything back on in sequence — TV → Apple TV → Hue Box.

The result: HDMI signal now passes perfectly, and all devices communicate flawlessly.

Everything works great!

So… consider a TV software update to other possible resolutions.

Apple and Phillips support never suggested a TV software update resolution for my display problem.

Good luck!

Update:

After more testing with different ports and settings, I’ve made some progress but the issue remains.

  • The Apple TV will output streaming content (e.g., HBO Max) through the Philips Sync Box 8K with both video and audio.
  • However, while streaming is playing, if I press the back arrow on the Apple Remote, the TV immediately loses both video and audio.
  • If I then press select + play on the Apple Remote, the streaming video and audio resume normally. No TV settings or input are ever changed because the Apple Remote does not control the TV.

So the odd behavior is: streaming video/audio passes through the Sync Box fine, but accessing the Apple TV menu causes the signal to drop entirely.

Has anyone experienced this, or know why the Apple TV’s menu interface fails through the Sync Box while streaming apps work?
