CD audiobook import to Books on Sequoia (MacOS 15)

I wish to import new CD audiobooks to Books for listening. I believe that Music is the only native app that will actually read the CD and save the files. This would be fine, except that the option to join tracks and designate files as audiobook instead of music has been missing for quite a while. Joining the tracks is preferred as it prevents them from getting accidentally shuffled and allows you to "pick up where you left off" rather than guessing which track you were actually on. (Note, I can import previously saved audiobooks in Books, but nothing new.) Additionally, any audiobooks that were not purchased from the Audiobook Store are permanently deleted if you attempt to remove them from Books.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

TIA!
