iPod Touch won’t turn on. How can I retrieve photos / videos

I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen (2010) that I have been trying to charge up to access some old photos and videos. When plugged in, the iPod acknowledges that it is plugged into a power source and displays the battery icon with red and a lightning symbol below. Since it doesn’t have the logo for a charger I believe it identifies that it is plugged into power yet it just won’t charge. I’ve tried different cables and plugs but it never makes any progress. After 24 hours still nothing. 2 hours in, the screen turned on, but then as soon as I swiped to unlock, it powered back off. Any suggestions on what I could do to access the data?
