Severe lag and freezing after macOS Tahoe update on MacBook Pro M1

The experience has been terrible for the last week. After a few hours of use, restarting becomes imperative. The mouse pointer and windows lagging behind every click and drag, sometimes appearing and disappearing randomly all over the desktop.

Please Apple, update Tahoe ASAP!

I'm running it on MacBook Pro M1 Pro 1TB (half empty) 32Gb Ram

I would try reinstalling the macOS on top of it self to sort upgrade anomalies like yours

I want to say that the way these comments of mine appear completely dissociated from the comment to which I'm replying is absolutely unhelpful & indeed outright confusing. Tahoe is a major nuisance. I've spent hours and hours now trying to fix this lag & touch-pad freezing. What a complete embarrassment for Apple. What a complete failure. Apple should pay us all for our time struggling against its lousy, dysfunctional software.

The default sort order for the Apple forum is "Ranked" which tends to equate to chaotic since it breaks the time ordered listing of posts within a thread.

You can change the sort order on a single thread by clicking the drop-down box next to "Sort by" which is located just below & on the right side just beneath the original post or if a "Top-ranking Reply" is highlighted, then it will beneath that post. Choices are "Oldest" (which is traditionally the ordering of most other forums) or "Newest". I have no idea if the system will remember the choice for a single thread when you look at the thread next time.

The best option is to change the default "Sort by" setting within your forum's account settings which can be accessed by clicking on your avatar at the upper right & selecting "Preferences". Configuring your account with a customized sort order setting will show all Apple forum thread in the desired sort order whenever you are logged into the Apple forums. Beware browsing the forum while not logged in since the forum default will be the chaotic "Ranked" sort order.

Ok, I followed the recommended advice and re-installed the Tahoe OS and ... lag, lag, lag. From the first moment the touch pad seized up. I booted and then rebooted to give the OS a chance and no, it still lags. This has taken me at least five hours by now when I'm supposed to be producing content.

Apple please provide a REAL fix.

Someone seems to read these comments because they deleted how I feel about this from a previous reply. Well, I did you re-install option and guess what? Even writing this comment I'm getting cursor lag. PLEASE PROVIDE A REAL FIX.

I have Macbook Air m1 and iMac m1 and the air seems to be working fine but the iMac is basically unusable. I have tried running all suggested commands and even setup the headless to automatically run after a restart however the next day i have to restart it again as I van even send an email without lagging. I have restarted my mac more times in a week that i have in the last 4 years. This is ridiculous and needs to be fixed. It feels just like vista when windows pushed everyone to upgrade their pc’s as the hardware wasn’t good enough to run it but m1 is more than capable of running a modern os. It was blazing fast before I updated to 26 and now with 26.1 feels unusable.

@John Galt forgot to specifically mention to uninstall BitDefender as well, although it is implied from the rest of their post with the reference to Anti-Virus software.

Oops, I cited the wrong contributor here, it should be @leroydouglas. I'm so very sorry @leroydouglas. I just happened to be referencing John multiple times today.
