copying FROM an external hard drive that is NTFS formatted onto an iMac

I'm considering buying an iMac. Can I: 1) copy files FROM an external hard drive that is NTFS formatted onto an iMac (e.g., documents, JPEG and music files) and 2) then work on those files. I am NOT attempting to work on the files residing on the NTFS formatted drive or saving files from the Mac to the NTFS hard drive.

Macs can read from NTFS volumes out of the box. You don't need any special drivers for that.

It's only formatting, or writing to, NTFS volumes that would require third-party drivers.
