How to calculate the sum of a vertical column in Numbers?

I have a vertical column of numbers in the Numbers application. I want to get a total sum for all of the cells in the column. The cell in which I want to calculate this sum total is Row 119 and Column S. I have a field open in which I need to enter the formula for calculating the sum total. I am hoping to get a precise instruction. I am not very experienced with my Apple devices. Thanks.

In Numbers when you want a sum at the bottom of a column you will find it convenient to make the last row a Footer Row in which you can place formulas.

Click the row number and choose 'Convert to Footer Row'

Then select the cell where you want the formula to go, in this case S119, and from the menu choose Insert > Formula > Sum.

That's it! Numbers will insert the formula for you. SUM(S2:S118)

If you expect you will need to add or delete rows in the future then you should consider simplifying that to just SUM(S). Then the formula will adjust automatically rather than you having to change the range reference each time you make a change.

One method is to select column S rows 1 through 118 (e.g. drag mouse from 1 through 118 to highlight them) and then drag the Sum formula from the bottom left of the screen to row 119.

Another option is to click in column S row 119 and type "= sum" and then use mouse to select rows 1 through 118 in that column.
