I lost the text in my Pages document

While working on a Pages document, I was trying to delete a blank page at the end. I changed from Work Processor to Page Layout and lost all of my text.

If you have document content, changing from one layout to another is a perfect means to lose content. Only in Page Layout mode is each page a section, and one can right-click on that page thumbnail and delete only that page.

In word-processing mode, you must click at the beginning of a blank page and backspace until the page is removed. Not how it should work, but how it is designed.

You may be able to recover the document text before the destructive layout change. With the document open, select File menu > Revert To > Browse All Versions… That will bring up a Time Machine like visual where you can retreat in time until your original document contents that was lost reappears. Then select Restore and then save the document.

If that fails, then you will need to launch the Time Machine application from your Applications folder and find, then restore the appropriately aged Pages document that was destroyed. The Finder's Quick Look helps here by clicking once on a found document in Time Machine and pressing the space bar to inspect the contents.
