Many thanks for your replies, I will use the user feedback link to voice my frustrations.

I've worked out if I hit edit button each time I use contacts the text size increases plus the ridiculously large space taken by the icon at the top disappears giving more space for the contact info. It also save having to scroll down on longer notes!!

The background is new yes.

Baked into the application.

You can make changes to your Display resolution... there is no independent increase of the Contacts.app that I am aware.

I am not seeing "strobing"... Try shutting down and restarting the machine >Shut Down...

To be proactive you can file a bug report https://www.apple.com/feedback/contacts/

The gray background for the contact card itself seems to be unaffected by the choice of theme (dark versus light), though the dark theme minimize the effect somewhat. That behavior cannot be controlled by the user, only Apple can alter it.  To have Apple consider your feedback, submit it here:

Regarding the font size, I’m not in front of my Mac at the moment, but is there a zoom setting in the view menu of the contacts app?

It’s not necessarily strobing as such maybe a moray effect. As the contact info area & text is now much smaller I’m having to scroll down more often, this is when I get the moray effect. I use contact many times a day, with the smaller text too it’s almost now unusable for me. Now looking for an alternative

The flickering/artifacts is a bug. Left side is a screenshot, right side is an iPhone pic of the display where you can see the graphical artifact.

Yes, please allow for either disabling or refining based on the hardware capabilities. The “strobe” is not an issue with the GUI flickering — it’s a result of that grey background redrawing every single time a new contact is tapped. Running an M1 MBP here and the Contacts app runs particularly slow, seemingly, only because the background, and possibly contact image, is redrawn every single time a new contact is displayed even if it’s exactly the same as the previous contact. It’s consuming a surprisingly large amount of time if interacting with multiple contacts (and that’s not even mentioning the poor overlapping display on Notes in each contact. Please resolve asap — even if that means disabling fill on “older” models. (A checkbox in the Settings would be preferred but, I understand, that isn’t always Apple’s preference.)

I think your "strobing" is the "flickering" that I just came here to ask about. It's a new thing in contacts under Tahoe, on my MacBook Pro, it might even be a new thing since 26.0.1 update, just not sure. Not seeing anything like it in iOS contacts on my phone.

I'm wondering if this is an unhappy side effect of "liquid glass", because it sure wasn't there before this update. Nothing wrong with a nice, flat, static, simple and non-distracting background for something as routine as Contacts.

This makes no difference on my 2019 Intel MBP.
