Opening .pdf documents from Patreon

I have all Apple equipment (MacBook and iPad Pro - maximum 2 years old) apart from my Android phone. I have received sheet music in .pdf format from a Patreon account for about 5 years. I've always downloaded it with no trouble. But now I can never download it. I have spent a couple of weeks with Patreon trying to sort out the issue. I get 'Safari cannot open this file because the network connection was lost'. No, it wasn't. Patreon tells me to use Google Chrome. But I don't want to. I use all Apple. Any help please.
