To fix a green screen on your Apple TV connected to an Android TV, first check HDMI cables and connections by unplugging and replugging them and trying a different port or cable. Next, reboot the Apple TV and the TV. Then, adjust the video settings by turning off HDR or changing the dynamic range and frame rate settings on your Apple TV. If the issue persists, you may need to check for software updates on both the Apple TV and the Android TV, and use a different HDMI port to rule out a TV-specific issue.

Hardware and Physical Connections

  1. Check HDMI cables: Unplug and firmly reinsert both ends of the HDMI cable connecting your Apple TV to your Android TV.
  2. Try a different HDMI cable: A faulty cable can cause the green screen issue, so try a different high-speed HDMI cable.
  3. Switch HDMI ports: Connect your Apple TV to a different HDMI port on your Android TV to see if the current port is the problem.
  4. Connect directly to the TV: If you're using an HDMI switch or AV receiver, connect your Apple TV directly to your Android TV to determine if the switch/receiver is the cause.

Device and Software Settings

  1. Restart your Apple TV and Android TV: Power cycle both devices by unplugging them from their power source, waiting 30 seconds, and then plugging them back in.
  2. Adjust video settings on Apple TV:
    • Go to Settings > Video and Audio.
    • Turn off Match Dynamic Range or Match Frame Rate to see if it resolves the issue.
    • If your Apple TV is stuck in a specific format, try changing the video resolution by holding Menu + Volume Down on your remote for 5 seconds until you find a compatible resolution, as suggested by Apple Support.
  1. Check for software updates: Ensure your Apple TV has the latest tvOS update and that your Android TV's software is also up to date.

Advanced Troubleshooting

  • Change the Chroma Setting (Advanced):

  • Some users report issues with color or contrast being off and changing this setting can help, according to this YouTube video.
  • Check for specific 4K issues:

  • If the green screen appears only on 4K content, ensure your TV, the HDMI cable, and any other connected devices (like sound systems) support HDMI 2.0 or higher.
