Hey there sp67,
Thankyou for sharing your issue in a detailed explanation.
The Calendar app sometimes ignores your default view setting on launch and reverts to month view, even if you previously selected week view. This is largely a software issue, not a problem with your iPad specifically.
Here’s a quick quide to fix this
- Check Default View Setting
- Open Settings → Calendar → Default View.
- Make sure Week is selected (you already have it set).
Force the App to Respect Week View
- Open Calendar
- If it opens in month view, tap Week at the top immediately.
- Once you switch manually, iPadOS usually remembers the last-used view for that session.
Reset Calendar Cache
- If it continues to default incorrectly:
- Close Calendar completely (swipe it away in the app switcher).
- Restart iPad.
- Open Calendar again.
This sometimes resets the “last view” memory.
Alternate Workarounds
Use Spotlight search or a widget to jump directly to a week view event — Calendar will then open in week view.
Some users keep Calendar in Split View or Slide Over; in these modes, the app sometimes respects the last-used view more consistently.
Notes
This appears to be an iPadOS 26 bug; there’s no official fix yet.
Apple may address it in a future minor update (26.1 or similar).
**There’s no supported way to permanently force week view on launch at this time; switching views manually or using a widget is the current workaround.**
Feel free to reply if you need any additional support further.
