Hundreds of eMail addresses stored on apple server

My eMail iCloud account is NOT choosing email addresses from my contact list but from hundreds of email addresses stored on iCloud server and the server address usually comes up with wrong address and my emails are sent back as Non deliverable. WHY is iCloud not selecting addresses from ONLY my contact list (which are the correctly spelled addresses)
