M4 Mac Mini Time Machine Fails After Upgrade to Tahoe 26.0

I updated my M4 Mac Mini to Tahoe 26.0 2 days ago. Ever since my Time Machine backup has been failing. I've been using a My Passport for Mac - Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - for years to do this. The 4 Tb drive has just over 1 Tb of available space. I turned off Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac, but the backup still fails. I turned off NordVPN, but the backup still fails. Any help would be much appreciated.

I was finally able to get Time Machine working again. I noticed that there was a warning message within Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac:

Feature: Anti-Ransomware

An unauthorized app attempted to access your backups.

App: /System/Library/CoreServices/TimeMachine/backupd

We blocked the app to prevent it from altering the content of your backups.

Even though I had turned off Bitdefender Shield, a switch to turn on Time Machine Protection remained on ,so I turned it off. The backup ran for over 8 hours. Hopefully this will help others in a similar situation.

Thanks for everyone's efforts to help.

I would erase/reformat/initialize the drive as new— and start anew if you have an issue.

The macOS likes to see GUID/ APFS — maybe you get away with " Extended (Journaled)" on a rotating HDD(?)
