Missing predictive text bar in English when using Magic Keyboard after update to iPadOS 26

When using the English keyboard with a Magic Keyboard after updating to IPadOS 26.0, the predictive text bar no longer shows up. This was specifically noted in the Messages app, but it’s not showing on any app. When I disconnect the Magic Keyboard, predictive text does show up if I use the onscreen keyboard, but that isn’t practical. How do I get this back?

I have restarted the iPad, toggled the settings “Predictive Text” and “Show Predictions Inline” on and off, exited Messages and restarted the app, all to no effect.

I updated my 5th gen Air and 5th gen Pro 12.9 this morning, set them up as Full Screen as I don’t “work” on them, just read or watch stuff. I though that overnight the issue was ‘magically’ fixed.

nope 😒 😡

i just discovered that predictive text/emojis is normal when set to Full Screen but gone if set to Windowed Apps. They are also dead with Stage Manager. I spent 3+ hours last night messing around with turning predictive text on/off, restarting, connecting to my near brand new iMac keyboard instead of my year’s old white one.

Arrrgggghhh. Apple please fix this. Until then I guess I’ll stick to Full Screen and not use the advertised highlight to the newest iPad operating system. ☹️

I also am not getting text message delivery notifications on my new iPhone 17. I get them on my 6th generation iPad Pro, but not the new iPhone. Also, I do not hear the clicking sounds when I type in my Apple Watch 10 passcode and all sounds have less volume on the watch and I have the sound volume at the highest level. Very frustrating.

Well that’s the point, I’d like to use windowed apps now that slide over is back and use slide over daily when in zoom meetings, however predictive text doesn’t apple. I hope Apple is listening and they make predictive text appear as it does right now in full screen mode. It’s ham-handed that it is not part of windowed mode. THANK you for your message (and all others contributing to this conversation). I’m a lonnnnnng time Apple guy I worked there 1984 to 1988 as tech advisor to the chairman and CEO at the time, then went to work for Steve at NeXT. (Oh the stories I could tell ha.) My employee #6067 and that was still my number when I went back to work at the Philadelphia for a fun, after decades of writing things like iPhone for Dummies etc. - my coworkers hand employee numbers in the 300,000. Wild times. I do find so many things about iOS 26 iPad is 26 maddeningly frustrating, this being one one of them. I’ll get used to it especially as they fix so many complicated features etc. THANK you again for prompting my reply. Hoping suggestions comes back soon. Peace, Sam, and others, Joe Hutsko
