I’m an author; Pages under Tahoe 26 just erased a quarter of my new novel

Last night I came back to my MacBook (M3 Max, 64gb ram) to discover about a quarter of the progress of my new novel… gone!

It’s not in revision history

It wasn’t on iCloud

Time Machine didn’t work

The text was just - gone, as though it never existed.

I have the full release of 26 installed on my devices (MacBook, iPhone, iPads & watch) and I’ve seen lots of bugs in the new systems; especially on Mac. Things don’t size right, Safari freezes, apps have failed to open, scroll bars don’t always work, “clicking” seems to do nothing sometimes, StreamDeck won’t work.

This is my first time writing a book in Pages, having become sick of Word.

Losing progress on a creative work is devastating, and worse - I don’t know if I can trust the new version enough to keep using Apple products for my livelihood.

You should have Time Machine turned on , even if you do not use an external backup.

As a writer, it would be hard to believe you do not back on the regular...

There are alternatives to Pages...

LibreOffice.app is often recommended for a Word substitute:

macOS | LibreOffice - Free and private office suite

ibreOffice on the Mac App Store

if it is some glitch or a bug I am confident Apple would like to here about it in their new macOS Tahoe.
