I updated to IOS 26 today and I cannot get the backround to change in IMessages on known Apple accounts. I have googled and followed the directions and it still is not working. I have turned ipad off and back on, I have tried using airplane mode on and off and nothing works. What am I missing?

let me ck tips. I followed the prompts when first signing back on. I tapped a known apple account. I do not get the “backround” pop up when I do that. I have short tapped, long tapped, swiped left and right. Nothing. I “googled it” watched youtube vids. I verified my ipad should be able to handle the changes.
Hi there, when you are setting your background photo for the Messages app, you either choose a preset choice such as water or aurora, or using the Photos app. It’s still a bit unclear what your asking for, but here’s my interpretation.
When you choose one of these, you will see a checkmark in the top right corner of the window that opens up. If you click that, it should upload the background image you want to have. In steps:
Perhaps you can provide a little more detail as to what steps you are taking? Did you follow the steps in the Tips app?
Addendum. I was able to send a photo, then was able to set that photo as a backround but I still cannot get the backrond button to show up. Helppppp! Thank you.
The Background button is offered for unaltered backgrounds. Once I set the background, then go back in to change the background, the Background button is not offered.
How come I can’t get backround to change on iMessages running ios 26 on iPad Pro 4th gen
