Swipe app in from side seems to have gone

I updated to iPad os26 and I wish I hadn't now as I have instantly become far less efficient.

The multitasking is terrible for my use. I draw on the iPad with my apple pencil on pdfs and I write measurements based on those drawings whilst on site. Then when I get home, I would swipe in from the right of the screen to bring in my calculator, overlayed in a smaller window, look at the dimensions on my pdf, make the calculations, write them in and then when all calculations are done, swipe the calculator away.

Now I have to make my pdf smaller which makes measurements harder to read, so I can have the calculator to the side. However I have to press the calculator to switch to it and then press the pdf to switch back to the pdf, write in the numbers, then press calc again to go back to that and so on. So inefficient!

The other way is to have the pdf full screen and when I want the calculator, swipe up from the bottom to show the dock, press the calculator and it overlays it. Then I have to remember the result which can be alot of numbers and write it on the pdf because once I press on the pdf, that calc goes behind and I cannot see it. Then I need the calc again, swipe up, press calc, do the calculation then press the pdf again. Again, so inefficient!

This is a MASSIVE step backwards with this OS!!
