TV as display not working after macOS 26

After upgrading to macOS 26 yesterday on my Mac Studio M1 Max, my display stopped working. I am using a 65" Vizio TV as a display and when I plug that same exact HDMI cord into a computer monitor it displays correctly. Any ideas on why this is not working? Thanks!

Update: I purchased a high quality USB-C to HDMI cable, and that made no difference. The TV/monitor was still missing in the Display settings and it automatically attempts to mirror the TV as an extended display. Worst yet, there is no way to stop mirroring/extending. What I wound up doing as a band-aid was installing a utility called "BetterDisplay" which has a setting to force a discovered TV to be seen as a "computer monitor". That totally fixes the forced mirroring of your TV connected via a USBC or HDMI cable. I switched back to a normal hdmi cable to free up a Thunderbolt port and all is good!

A bit different in my case, but essentially the same problem. I have a MacBook Air M1 connected to a UNI USB-C Hub (6-in-1), and the hub is connected to an external monitor via HDMI. After updating to macOS 26 (Tahoe), the monitor no longer works, although other peripherals (like an external USB HDD) plugged into the hub still work fine.

Monitor connected to other laptops (windows) work flawlesly.

It seems to be a software issue. I’ve opened a support ticket with the hub vendor and I’m waiting for their reply.

If anyone has found a solution, I’d appreciate your input!

Best.

I forgot to describe my setup:

My Mac mini M1 is connected to an A/V receiver, which in turn is connected to an LG TV.

Before updating to macOS Tahoe 26.0 -- no problems.

After the update, audio still comes through without issues, but there is no video.

Using a USB-C adapter or a different HDMI cable does not fix the problem.

After updating to macOS Tahoe 260.0, the same problem now occurs on my MacBook M4.

I have the same issue -- Macbook Pro 16-in M1 Max with standard (short) HDMI cable to Grundig TV. Worked flawlessly until the upgrade to macOS 26. The MBP knows the TV is there, as it displays the name of the device, just as it did before, and asks me what to mirror/extend. And after making a choice, it still *thinks* it's mirroring/extending, but the TV just says "no signal." No cable changes or port changes (on the TV) make a difference.

Welcome to Apple. I had just spent days setting up my first apple computer (Mac Mini M4) and last night was prompted to update to Tahoe. I didn't think anything of it and let it update. Now my primary monitor (LG 55" QNed TV attached to hdmi port on mac mini m4) is missing from the Displays and all I can do is screen mirror to it. Can't believe this. I just tore down my Windows machine too. I tried the steps listed here but no go. What a bummer. Can I just restore from factory at this point to get back the way it was. I don't have any data, just app installs. Or should I wait for a fix, lol!

Unfortunately, I just upgraded to Tahoe 26.1 and it CREATED a problem. I had not had a problem before, but arrived here while searching for my issue. I had no issue with 26.0.*.

I'm on a MacBook M3 and had been using two external displays with the laptop closed.

Following the update to 26.1 I can no longer connect either external display with the laptop closed.

Update: It appears that it's my MagSafe charger that is no longer working with 26.1 and MacBook M3. And with no power connected, it won't run external displays with the lid closed. So I'm off to figure out if anybody has MagSafe or power issues with 26.1...
