How to disable liquid glass in iOS 26?
Is there a way to completely disable the liquid glass functionality on iOS 26? I'm not going to get into a lengthy diatribe over why it's awful, I just want it gone.

According to Apple in IOS 26.01
On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, then scroll down so you can tap on Display & Brightness. Now tap on Liquid Glass.
That opens a screen that lets you choose from Clear or Tinted. Choose the second option to nerf Liquid Glass. As Apple says, “Clear is more transparent, revealing the content beneath. Tinted increases opacity and adds more contrast.” Hope this helps. I refuse to update to 26 due to liquid glass.

It's usually a good idea to check the date of the post you respond to. You responded to a post asked in September and by now I'm sure the Author of this thread understands what you just suggested. And it's not in iOS 26.01 that this new setting was released. It was released in iOS 26.1.

I really wish they'd make the default sort order one of the chronological options....
I put the background on my iphone 16 navy blue and this has helped the icons look clearer and more visible. Also enlarged the icons. I don't like the glass look at all, it's especially difficult for people with any kind of sight limitations. Apple needs to address this issue for people with disabilities and for anyone who wants a choice to set their screen to pre-glass state.

True, but since the post was directed to the Author's opening post, I think it would still be at the top of the thread, regardless of the sort order?

Good point....
I’m also having problems with the IOS 26.1 Liquid Glass UI. It has made the IPhone almost unusable. If Apple doesn’t fix the Liquid Glass contrast problems ASSP I will have no other choice but to buy an Android phone from Samsung, Google……. Really don’t want to buy another phone especially an Android phone, but at this point my IPhone is a boost anchor.

Then you should read through the 21 pages of answers for help. Maybe this will help-

This is a user to user forum, we don't care what brand you buy.
I just tried to submit feedback re Liquid Glass, but the terms button is not working. What the H E double hockey sticks is going on??
Here is what I was trying to say:
I am 48 yrs old, and I just got prescribed glasses and contacts for the first time. My nearsightedness is the one thing I can rely on without glasses. Liquid Glass has ruined that for me. Everything is blurry as if I didn't have my glasses on. Please release an OS update that allows the user to make Liquid Glass optional. It is truly mean to make anyone older than 45 feel like they can’t see when their eye sight is already becoming an issue. In short, Liquid Glass is a completely ageist / disability UNfriendly feature that completely ignores the needs or comfort of what I can only assume is the majority of users. Especially parents; we pay for all the devices in our household. Why would you force a feature that is only appropriate for a 20-yr old? It is literally giving me a headache, and it’s been on for less than 24 hours.
It would be a great if Apple/iOS could provide a way to opt-out from it. Because this liquid glass design is not nice, looks subpar compare to my old iPhone 14 pro. I see iPhone 17 is going backwards in its look & feel.

Hello~ Do you have a technical question or answer for us?
~Katana-San~
This was more of a feedback to Apple, if that helps as I'd also like to turn it off if it were possible.
So my question is whether Apple has any plans to make this theme an opt-out feature for users that don't like it.
I just got the update. I’m very displeased. If anyone from Apple reads this: Liquid Glass is my final frustration. My next new phone is in 9 or 10 months. It won’t be an iPhone unless i can turn off Liquid Glass. I bought this device. And you changed it in an awful way.
I have no idea how to fix this problem. I have tried everything that has been suggested …. But the screen is too dark … and I cannot read maps it when I am driving and it is sitting in the phone holder. Any suggestions for lightening the screen. Both phones are iPhone 14 … the one on the right has not been upgraded 😮

If you have turned brightness up on the phone on the left and it isn't making the screen brighter, you likely have a hardware issue with the screen and you'll need to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation and service options --> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
