Is there a way to restore the sidebar in Books for iPadOS

Up until recently, Books in iPadOS had a very helpful sidebar, as it does on the Mac. It was removed although virtually every other iPadOS app has a sidebar. It is a huge step backwards for library management.

Is there any way to restore the sidebar in Books for iPadOS?
