HomePod cannot be reset -

This is a homepod. Not a homepod mini.

I followed the instructions. Pull out the plug, wait ten seconds, plug it in weight ten seconds. white light comes up and keep a finger until light turns red. Unfortunately the light never turns red. I already did it a couple of times. I had to reset because the volume on the homepod keeps coming down to mute despite turning on sound check.
