How do I remove the liquid glass look from app icons on iOS 26?

I think the liquid glass option is ugly and looking at the layout for too long gives me a headache. how do i remove the feature or get rid of the outline on all my app icons? i feel like it should be optional instead of forced.

Hello~ At present …what you want is not possible. There’s simply no other way to put it. You may also lick on below and let Apple know you thoughts as they will not see them here.

There is a place to see the clear glass setting. But it still doesnt change anything even though it gives you two choices.

Go to Settings; display and brightness; liquid glass; clear or tinted

I had to end up going to settings; Accessibility; display and text size; turn on reduce transparency and increase contrast. Thats the closest you can get to the old version.

It looks like no one has mentioned that you can just turn off the liquid glass effect from the home screen.

Hold down on the home screen for a couple of seconds to enter the edit mode. The app icons will start quivering with a minus sign and in the top right corner of the screen there will be an edit button. It beings up a screen that lets you select the glass look you want, or you can go back to default.

There are some other options that you might like to try instead of going back to default, like having slightly larger icons without any text underneath, or tinted glass, etc.

Hi to everyone here.

I don’t usually complain about things, but this is also affecting me physically from headaches because of the poor design and also my phone is not working correctly. I have tried all the steps and try to make adjustments. It’s simply bad design so we have two options to either wait for them to fix it software, which they haven’t or to get another phone. Should we all just keep reaching out to Apple and hoping they fix it? or just go to Android phones

If you have feedback for Apple, you should give it to them:

Personally, I like Liquid Glass and have let Apple know that. As for whether or not you should switch to an Android phone, well 1) I doubt anyone here cares what you decide and 2) Android is moving to something similar to Liquid Glass called, I think, "Materials 3.0."

Sure, go to Android, we don't care here on this user to user only forum. But as Bob Timmons correctly suggests, you'll likely be pretty disappointed there as well.

Can we assume you popped in, read the first post and replied without reading any of the other responses? Had you taken the time to do read further, you'd have seen options which are available to you which would likely make you much happier.

Ever since this update is rolled out I’ve been getting migraines nonstop. I finally found another forum, which made it very simple you go into settings> accessibility> display, and Text size>

Here you will want to go and turn off the translucent part of the home screen apps/widgets by clicking “ reduce transparency” now others have said to also increase contrast but when I did that it made no difference. Hope this helps this thread, and in any case if there’s ever a issue for future updates since Apple doesn’t come here ever it seems and Apple support has been bit blamey vs forward thinking, just go complain about the new update here Product Feedback - Apple

until we get enough voices for any update of unhappiness they won’t do anything.

That information has been included in this thread on every page.

So to fix that, you’ll want to go into your Settings and then head over to the “Accessibility” section. From there, you’ll find something like “Display & Text Size,” and you can look for an option called “Reduce Transparency.” If you turn that on, it should make those backgrounds more solid and get rid of that glassy look you don’t like.
