Trackpad issues after udpate to macOS 15.6.1

I switched from a Windows laptop to a MacBook Pro 15 M3 in July 2024. After updating to macOS 15.6.1, the trackpad became extremely sensitive, registering multiple clicks from even the slightest touch.

I have tried adjusting the trackpad settings, restarting, cleaning, updating to macOS 26, and following other online suggestions, but none of these resolved the issue. There is no visible physical damage to the trackpad or laptop, and it has not been exposed to liquids or extreme conditions.

Apple Diagnostics does not report any problems. Interestingly, while the diagnostic test is running, the trackpad functions normally, but the issue returns immediately once the test is complete.

This problem is very frustrating, as the laptop cannot be used without an external mouse. Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?

Thank you for your suggestion.

Updated to macOS 26.

Started multiple times in safe boot.

Tried other user.

Uninstalled third party software.

Unfortunately, nothing made a difference.

The trackpad behaves normally only while running Apple Diagnostics on the trackpad. As soon as the diagnostics is finished, the problem comes back.

Everything started with the update to 15.6.1.

Could it be a firmware issue?

You can try user Diagnostic...not as definitive as Apple's own AST2 (Apple Service Toolkit) back bench diagnostic, but may kick out an error code.
