Reliable SuperDrive replacement for CD ripping and DVD playback on iMac and MacBook Pro

Hi! I live in the UK. My old SuperDrive, which I use with my iMac and MacBook Pro, stopped working reliably just before Christmas 2024. I replaced it with a second-hand one, which worked fine until a few days ago, when, like my original one, it would no longer accurately rip some CDs that played without any problem on my 2 CD players. Some other CDs it will still rip without any problem, in fact I’m listening to one in my iTunes library at the moment that I ripped only this morning.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a more reliable replacement? I mainly use the SuperDrive to rip CDs into my iTunes library, though I occasionally use it to play DVDs, which the two old SuperDrives still seem to play OK..

Yes: 2 CD players; iTunes library - hopelessly Old School, I know! But I would be very grateful for any help on this before I buy a replacement.
