Getting past recovery assistant stuck on Activate Mac/WiFi network requires a WPA2 password

Purchased a used MacBook Pro from a friend and can’t get it to recognize my home WiFi. I’ve read thru solutions but none seem to work if you are just setting up for the first time. My iPhone and iPad function perfectly on this WiFi

Will the Ethernet cable workaround mentioned in other solutions help me?

Did the friend set up the computer per What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac? If you cannot answer or know he did not then return the computer and have the ALL the steps in the link. Otherwise you will have a paperweight.

Hi,

It's natural to enter WPA2 password for connecting new devices to WiFi router.
