Airpods not connecting, only flash amber when trying to reset

I woke up and my airpods were low charge so I plugged them in for charging. Now I come back tonight and they still aren't fully charged. And I try to connect them and it doesn't work. So I forget the airpods on my device. And now they won't connect back – holding down the bluetooth button only shows a constant white light, not flashing. And when I hold the button for longer (to reset it), it only blinks amber, not amber and white like it should (according to google).
