Messages and FaceTime repeatedly asking me to log in.

The Messages and FaceTime apps are both asking me to log in over and over. When I do so, they seem like they're working for about 10 second, then it goes back to the login prompt. If I cancel the login window, it quits the app, and that brief period between prompts isn't quite long enough to get into either app's preferences to make any changes.

This is not affecting anything else as far as I can tell. Mail, Calendar, iCould Drive, and the App Store are all working fine.

This is happening across at least 2 Macs. My M4 MBP and my M2 Mini.

My iOS devices (Phone, Watch, and iPad) are all working as expected with Messages and FaceTime.

The only thing that I changed, which may or may not be related, was setting an old iMac (running Mojave) up for my Dad to use. I have an account set up on it as well as the admin which is connected to my appleid.

I have removed that computer from my Devices in the account section of the system settings. Which did not solve the issue.

I have also tried disabling Messages in the iCloud settings and then reenabling it. Still no luck.

I'm quite baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, the password isn't wrong. I get a different error in that case. This acts like it's accepting it and then the same login window pops up again shortly after. I've tried reentering my info in at least 3 times and it keep popping up.

Also, I have no problems signing into iCloud.com. So, it seems like the appleid is ok, but something specifically related to Messages/FaceTime is causing a problem. Which, is weird, but the fact that it's doing it on multiple Macs, but not iOS devices is also strange.

Just spent an hour on chat with Apple with a similar issue, after Sequoia update to 15.6.1, can't make any calls or video calls on FaceTime. Also have to keep logging back in to both FaceTime and Messages. They said my Apple account has been spam flagged and I need to reactivate it. Have done that now but need to wait 24 hours to see if it's fixed. However, this may not be the issue as I noticed when I opened settings in Messages on my MacOS device that only email addresses were ticked, not my phone numbers. All were ticked on my iPhone. So I'd say before contacting Apple, on your MacOS device open Messages, click Settings, then the "iMessage" tab, and check that your phone number(s) are ticked in the list of recognised account options in case this might fix the issue. I believe iPhone defaults to your phone number for these apps which could explain why there are no issues with iOS devices. Will report back tomorrow with an update.

On the occasion that I was able to get far enough into the settings before it asked me for my account and password again, I also noticed that my phone number was unchecked. On a following attempt, I tried to click on the phone number, but it wouldn’t let me.

So I assume that phone number being unchecked is part of the failed activation thing.

But yes, Apple was able to fix whatever the problem was overnight after I contacted them.

SOLVED: Reactivating Apple account fixed the issue for me. My FaceTime and Messages are now working fine after Apple reactivated my account. It didn't even take 24 hours, so just an update to say account reactivation worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you too.

I do think the issue may have stemmed from the email address I use for my Apple account which has been involved in a security leak previously, although I have also gone into Messages and ticked both of my phone numbers now so hopefully this won't happen again.
