The phone will select the known printer but does not connect to the wireless printer. It is a 2014 Cannon image class MF 212w. Is there a way to clear the "known" printer on Iphone and try to connect again?

Make sure that you have connected the printer to your network.
I have not tried resetting Network Setting to see if it removes printer connections, but you can try at Settings > Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will erase your WiFi password, so you will have to enter that password the first time you login again, and also remove paired Bluetooth devices.
Make sure you're running the current version of iOS.
